What is SDF?

Silver Diamine Fluoride is a revolutionary treatment option for the management of tooth decay. It is an FDA-approved, antimicrobial liquid that is painted onto an active area of decay, arresting the cavity and strengthening the tooth in a fast, painless, non-invasive manner.

By arresting caries, SDF offers an alternate care path for young, fearful, or pre-cooperative children for whom traditional treatment is not possible, often preventing the need for sedation and local anaesthesia. There are also applications for adolescents in select situations.

Treatment with Silver Diamine Fluoride will not eliminate the need for restorative dentistry to repair the tooth, but it can be an excellent alternative for some children.
